hey everyone!
this is lisa & i'm going to show you some nifty techniques using crepe paper streamers!
i found some vintage ones at a thrift store & also had tons left over from past parties.
you probably have some laying around your house somewhere.
they are very inexpensive & come in almost any color imaginable!
today we are going to make:
a nest
some flowers
and a fringed garland.
why would you want to make those things, you say?
so you have the necessary items to make this wall hanging:
let's make the nest first...
take a length of paper streamer (i used about 6 feet to make a small nest), and keep folding it in half until you get a little bundle:
using pinking shears (or other decorative scissors), cut the bundle lengthwise into skinny strips:
when your done, separate & scrunch them up.
you should end up with a pile that looks like this:
next, add little bits of fibers & paper, ribbon, & thin gauge wire.
(note...the little bits of wire help shape & form the nest. i used fabric covered floral wire)
scrunch it up into a ball and lightly spritz with a little bit of water:
carefully flatten & shape into a little nest.
then spray with glimmer mist:
(you can skip this step if you don't have any glimmer mist, but i find that it adds a bit of color & moistens it a little bit more)
take some white glue, and make a little puddle in the middle of your nest:
take something round with a flat bottom (like a small bowl or cup) and mold your nest a bit.
take your cup out, and let your nest dry.
after it's dry, your going to glue some eggs on your nest.
i used some old ceramic beads for my "eggs":
next, glue on a little birdie:
add glitter:
let dry & your done!
ok, let's make a crepe paper flower...
take two pieces of crepe paper
(for a regular sized flower, i used about 9 inches)
layer them together, and start acordian folding them (or scrunching works, too).
take a piece of wire & thread a few beads or buttons or whatever floats your boat:
wrap your wire around your gathered streamer & twist tightly to secure:
lastly, fan out & scrunch up your layers.
ta-da!
here are some more variations:
here is how you make the fringed garland:
figure out how long you want your garland to be & double that length, folding it in half:
keep folding in half until you get a little bundle and cut slits about 3/4 of the way up:
carefully unfold to it's doubled size:
now, gently but firmly, pull the top part of the piece & twist at the same time
the crepe paper will kind of stick to itself (without any adhesive) & stay wound:
kind of scrunch it up as you go...your final product should look like this:
ok, so now you have all your finished elements...
take a vintage book cover & just start piling & assembling things together.
for this wall hanging, i used mostly stuff from the "urban prep" collection.
that's it!
here are some more detailed pictures:
i can't wait to see the creative stuff you guys come up with!
